SasuSaku - the meaning of their relationship

I wonder how important for Sasuke was Sakura's confession for these three years. We don't know what he's thinking about her, we can only have theories (and therefore this pairing is so popular and perceived as very romantic plot).
I read post about trying to kill Sasuke by Sakura - the main conclusion was Uchiha gave her plenty of time to withdraw or do what he's said.
Therefore now i'm wondering about confession. Is it possible that the main cause of atacking Sakura was not only selfdefensing but disappointment compounded by rage and hatred? As if somebody important for you betrayed you and wouldn't even suspect that it could happen, but it's unfortunately true.
